Nurturing mothers as they successfully feed their babies is a highly rewarding practice that supports families in our communities at a profound level. Breast massage and manual expression of breast milk is highly effective in increasing milk production, as evidenced by the many cultures throughout the world that include this work as standard of care on maternity wards. The simplicity of the work allows bodyworkers to easily and confidently incorporate breast massage into their current practices, while adding an appealing and beneficial service to increase clientele.

This class was created as a way for therapists to learn how to offer breast health education, as well as provide a quality chest and breast massage to healthy breast tissue. Techniques can be applied to all genders and the class is open to students of all genders. In particular, the regulations for providing breast massage in WA State will be reviewed.

The first morning will be a lecture focusing on ethics (credit for 2 hours of ethics will be given), regulations and communication. In the afternoon we will review anatomy, breast self-massage and start trades with proper draping and a basic chest and breast massage protocol that can be included as part of any full-body massage.

Day 2 will focus on furthering our breast massage protocol for particular client populations, as well as lymphatic massage. We will also discuss relevant marketing and office consent policies to support breast massage in your practice.

Here is a link to videos of lecture materials to help prepare you for class.

We will learn breast self-care practices that practitioners can use, or teach parents to prepare themselves as the mammary glands are expanding during pregnancy. From here develops a breast massage system we can easily meld into any pre-natal massage treatment we are already familiar with.

The State of Breast Massage in Washington State

Currently there is significant controversy surrounding breast massage regulations in WA State. Changes in required training, record keeping and draping will also effect how we practice breast massage. We will discuss how the proposed changes will affect your business, ways to protect yourself and your clients’ access to care, and case studies involving how to treat the “untouchable client.” You will leave with client education materials and tools to incorporate breast massage and breast care education into your practice. Cost is $10 at the door. Hosted by the Seattle LMP Network - RSVP on their FaceBook page!

Massage Mastermind: Breast Massage Legislation is on the Table!

I am very excited to be offering these monthly, evening Mastermind classes in a structured but relaxed and inspiring format. The format: A facilitator speaks on a popular topic (in this case, the current proposed legislative changes in Washington for Massage Therapy) and the attendees utilize or disregard this information as they see fit. After the lecture, everyone divides into groups to bring concentrated attention to a particular challenge at hand. Each person takes a turn outlining her problem or question and receiving feedback from teammates. The round is completed when the student has an action plan that is appropriate to move forward. We will share ways that we can be part of the WAC changes, as well as how to prepare for these changes. Here is a link to the minutes I took at the September 11 meeting. Here is a link to more about what is a "Mastermind". And finally, here is a link to register!
